Where can I find streaming films?

Answer

The Norwalk Campus Library provides access to a large and increasing number of streaming film titles, including contemporary and classic feature films, award-winning documentaries, instructional videos, news broadcasts, and presentations.

These videos are available through the following databases:

Films on Demand is a digital, streaming video service which offers over 38,000 titles, including educational films on Humanities & Social Science, Business & Economy, Science & Mathematics, and Health topics. Films on Demand also offers special collections by well known, respected media outlets such as Frontline, CNBC Specials, the Biography Channel, PBS, and HBO.

The Kanopy BASE Collection provides streaming access to a fixed collection of over 8000 documentaries and feature films that support the CT State Norwalk curriculum. **For Faculty: If you do not see a film that was previously available, it is possible that the license for that title has expired. Please email our Campus Library Director, Alison Wang, with questions or requests.

SWANK Digital Campus streams a collection of 529 classic and contemporary feature films that support the Norwalk curriculum. **For Faculty: If you do not see a film that was previously available, it is possible that the license for that title has expired. Faculty can request titles in the SWANK platform for academic use; please read our FAQ on How to Use SWANK to request films. If you have additional questions, please email our Campus Library Director, Alison Wang.

FOR FACULTY ONLY: If you wish to view a film that is not currently licensed through the SWANK or Kanopy platforms for academic use, you can request it. A few notes about film requests:

  1. As part of the process to request, it is mandatory that you identify the course number for which it will be used as well as describe a reason for its academic use. For requests through Kanopy, please email our Campus Library Director, Alison Wang. For requests through SWANK, please follow the instructions listed on our SWANK guide for faculty.
  2. Film requests are not immediate. Please allow at least one week for processing requests. Also, please note the film release date as listed in the SWANK catalog. You are able to request films that have not been formally released, but they will not be available for viewing until the release date. You will receive a notification from the library when your film request has been processed.
