FOR FACULTY ONLY: How to Use SWANK Digital Campus
Answer
A. Create an Instructor Account
- On the Norwalk Campus Library homepage, click the Databases by Subject tab. Scroll down to the Streaming Films category and click on SWANK Digital Campus.
- First-time users should see a welcome message (pictured below). To create an account, choose "Instructor" and set up an account ID/password. Please use your official school email address when setting up your account. (Returning users can bypass this message; click "I already have an account" and login.)
- After setting up your account details, please accept the following terms and conditions for use (see below). Next, check your school email for a verification email. Once you verify your email address, you are free to browse, view, and request films.
B. Browse and Request Films in SWANK.
- Once you are logged in, you will have the option to browse content licensed to CT State Community College OR all films that are part of the SWANK catalog.
- Licensed Content includes a collection of over 500 films that have been licensed for viewing by CT State. These films are available immediately and licensed for viewing by CT State students, faculty, and staff.
- Content in the SWANK catalog includes ALL films that are offered through the streaming platform. The catalog contains films that are not currently licensed for viewing by CT State users. If you see a film in the catalog that is not currently licensed for use by CT State, you can request it.
- If you want to view a film in the catalog that is not currently licensed for use by CT State, you can request it. A few notes about film requests:
- As part of the process to request within the SWANK platform, it is mandatory that you identify the course number for which it will be used as well as describe a reason for its academic use (see screenshot below). ALSO: please email our Campus Library Director, Alison Wang, after you have submitted a request so that we can review and process it.
- Film requests are not immediate. Please allow at least one week for processing requests. Also, please note the film release date as listed in the SWANK catalog. You are able to request films that have not been formally released, but they will not be available for viewing until the release date. You will receive a notification from the library when your film request has been processed.
- Films that are added to our SWANK collection can be accessed either through searching the platform or by a direct link provided from within the platform. These links can also be embedded within Blackboard courses.
C. Provide Viewing Information for Students
- On the Norwalk Campus Library homepage, students should click the Databases by Subject tab, scroll down to the Streaming Films category, and click on SWANK Digital Campus.
- Students can search for the title of the film in the SWANK search box or browse the complete list by title. Instructors can also embed the link provided by the SWANK platform directly into their course in Blackboard.
- Students will only be able to see the films licensed for the CT State community.
