How to connect your phone or computer to a Verizon Orbic Speed hotspot WiFi network

1. Press and hold the hotspot’s power button for 3 seconds until the welcome logo is displayed and WiFi is on.

2. Go to your phone or computer’s WiFi settings and select your hotspot’s WiFi network. The hotspot’s network name begins with “Verizon-RC400L.”

3. To find the hotspot’s WiFi password, repeatedly press the Menu button, located on the side of the hotspot, until you reach the 2.4GHz WiFi Info screen. When you have reached the 2.4GHz WiFi Info screen, press the Power button to view full information. Your hotspot’s WiFi password is displayed next to a lock icon.

4. Enter your hotspot’s WiFi password in your phone or computer’s WiFi settings to connect your device to the hotspot’s WiFi.

Troubleshooting and further information

Can’t find WiFi settings: If you cannot locate your phone or computer’s WiFi settings, contact the IT Helpdesk for assistance.

Data/service messages during startup sequence: When you turn on the hotspot, it may pause for several seconds at the “retrieving data usage info” screen or quickly flash “no service available.” This is normal while the hotspot connects to its service network. Please wait for the hotspot to finish its startup sequence, and service will become available.

Battery tips: Your hotspot works best with a fully charged battery or plugged in during use. It can take three hours or more to charge the battery. A few minutes after you connect your device to the hotspot, the hotspot screen will go into sleep mode to save power while the hotspot continues to provide WiFi service. If you forget to turn off or plug in your hotspot after you are finished using your device, your battery will drain while you are away. To turn off the hotspot, press and hold the power button until the “powering off” screen appears.

Battery icon won’t go away: When you plug in your hotspot while it is in use, the normal hotspot menu may disappear and a battery charging icon may appear. If you need to access the hotspot menu, turn the power off and on again.

Unstable connection problems: The Orbic Speed hotspot defaults to the 2.4GHz WiFi band, which can be used by all devices and provides better service when traveling through walls or other obstructions. This hotspot can also provide service on the 5GHz WiFi band, which can be used by newer devices and may provide higher speed, but is not as good at traveling through walls. If you experience an unstable connection on the 2.4GHz band, first check your battery charge, ensure the hotspot is close to your computer or phone, and move next to a window. If your connection is still unstable, you can switch from 2.4GHz to 5GHz in your hotspot’s Device Settings, then reconnect your device to the 5GHz hotspot network to see if service improves. Note that the Orbic Speed’s 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi bands have separate network names, available by pressing the Power button to show full information from either the 2.4GHz or 5GHz WiFi Info screens. If you are not sure if your phone or computer supports 5GHz WiFi, contact the IT Helpdesk for assistance.
