How do I get access to Westlaw?

Part 1: Request Westlaw Registration Key

Naugatuck Valley Paralegal students and faculty: fill out the Naugatuck Valley Campus Westlaw Access Request form with your college email account. Please note that it may take up to 4 business days for your request to be processed.

Part 2: Complete Westlaw Registration and Create Account

  1. After your request has been processed by the Naugatuck Valley Campus Library, you will receive an email from Thomson Reuters, the vendor for Westlaw, entitled Thomson Reuters Access Confirmation. (Check your spam or "Other" folder in Outlook if you do not see it.) This email will provide you a link to request your personal Registration Key. Click Register to start the registration process.
  2. Type your name or initials in the "Custom Label" field and enter your college email address (ex. abcd0123@mail.ct.edu) and click Continue:
  3. Create your OnePass Profile. Be sure to use your college email address. Click Continue:
  4. Choose a username and password and set up a security question to complete your profile. Click Create:
  5. Once you see Registration Complete! appear on your screen, click Continue to Westlaw to sign in to Westlaw Classic.

Part 3: Logging into Westlaw

  1. Sign into Westlaw using the username and password you just created.
  2. Agree to the terms and conditions set by Thomson Reuters Westlaw:
  3. For Client ID, enter your name or initials- this field would be used for tracking client time by a firm, but does not apply to students:

You are done! For future reference, use https://1.next.westlaw.com/ to log in.
