How do I use government websites through the library?

Is there an easy way to search for information published by state or federal government agencies?

Answer

The amount of information published by state and federal agencies is vast, but here are a few suggestions to get you started:

State of Connecticut

ct.gov - Official portal of the State of Connecticut

data.ct.gov - Connecticut open data - browse data provided by CT agencies

cga.ct.gov - Connecticut legislative branch document, including bills, statutes and current session information

ctdata.org -  Includes regional and town data, town profiles, as well as criminal justice, education and demographic data for the State of Connecticut

Federal Government

usa.gov - Official guide to federal government information and services

congress.gov - Includes the full text of all public laws and of all versions of House and Senate bills,  as well as the congressional committee reports dating back to 1989 (101st Congress). Full-text of The Congressional Record available from 1995-onward
