I need a peer-reviewed article on the topic of the benefits of arming teachers.
I have to write a paper on the benefits of arming teachers and need to find peer-reviewed articles to support my arguments. How do I get started?
Answer
Most of our research databases offer an option to limit your search results to peer-reviewed or scholarly articles. By clicking on the checkbox, you are limiting results to articles that are peer-reviewed and published in scholarly journals.
EBSCOhost Search Page with the Peer-Reviewed Limiter Checked
It appears under "search options" in the EBSCOhost interface.
Depending on the topic and how recent it is, you may need to broaden your search and brainstorm additional keywords to expand your topic. In this example, the topic of arming school teachers would yield many results from popular sources, like magazines and newspapers, but relatively few in scholarly journals since the publication cycle of scholarly journals is generally much longer. In this case, you might consider adding phrases like "school safety", "gun control" or "school shootings" to get more results.
