How do I Sign Up for the New York Times and Other Related Questions?
Answer
How to sign up for the free New York Times online account?
- Please go to the Library Homepage, find and click the link "I'd Like to ... Create a Free New York Times Account"
- Follow the on screen "Instructions to Create a New Account"
What is the new "All Access" Subscription to the NYTimes?
- Starting on 07-01-2024, the free NYTimes subscription for CT State Community College users has been upgraded to "All Access" package. It includes not just News, but also other contents such as Wirecutter, The Athletic, Cooking and Games/The Crossword.
Can I still use my existing NYTimes online account?
- For most users, the answer is Yes. The NYTimes has migrated all existing users with some exceptions to the new "All Access" subscription.
- However, if you can still login to your existing NYTimes account using the legacy email addresses such as @acc.commnet.edu, @asnuntuck.edu, or mail.ct.edu, we suggest that the user, after login, first verify you have access to News, other contents like Wirecutter, Games, The Athletic and Cooking to make sure you have full access to the new subscription; then go to Account --> Account Setting --> Update your email to the new @ctstate.edu email if you have one.
- The NYTimes will keep those legacy emails (acc.commnet.edu, asnuntuck.edu, mail.ct.edu) for access for the time being. But they will phase them out at some point. The exact timing will be dependent on the completion of the on-going CT State project of migrating all users to the new @ctstate.edu email.
What should I do if my existing NYTimes account no longer work?
- In that case, please review the entry on top of this page about "How to sign up for a free New York Times account?". Follow the instructions there to create a brand-new account using your new @ctstate.edu email.
- For some users who have paid personal digital subscription on top of the school subscription, the chances are your existing accounts will not work. However, if your email has migrated to @ctstate.edu you can simply create a new account using your new email address as described above. Otherwise, you need to cancel the paid personal subscription first by clicking on the "cancel your subscription" link that can be found on this LINK. You can also reach out to NYTimes customer care team (https://nytimes.com/contactus / 1-800-NYTIMES (698-4637)), who would be happy to assist with cancelling the account. Once the subscription is inactive you just need to visit accessnyt.com and follow the onscreen instructions to pull a pass using your college email account. If you have any issues with this process, please reach out to edu@nytimes.com.
Can I still access the NYTimes online if I have already retired?
- It depends. If you have a valid and working school email such as @ctstate.edu, there will be no problem. You just need to create a new account with this new email.
- If you still have valid and working legacy email such as @acc.commnet.edu, asnuntuck.edu, and mail.ct.edu, you may still be able to access the services for the time being until the NYTimes phases them out at some point, and you will not be able create a new account with the legacy emails unfortunately.
How to report a problem with NYTimes access and subscription?
- Please fill out and submit the online form Report A Problem. Someone from the CT State Libraries will get back to you as soon as they can.
