How would an Asnuntuck faculty member request a library visit for their class(es)?
Answer
Within staffing constraints*, reference librarians can provide scheduled classroom visits to support instruction in all aspects of information literacy. This includes, but is not limited to:
- how to turn a question or thesis into keywords and an effective search strategy
- how to tell the different between popular and scholarly resources and/or primary, secondary, or tertiary sources
- how to navigate library databases and/or Google for research purposes
- how to evaluate the credibility a resources for a variety of different uses based on a rubric
- how to cite sources and avoid plagiarism
Class visits to CCS 101 will follow a uniform curriculum to ensure all students have the same basic skills after their first year. Class visits to all other courses can be tailored to the specific needs of your class and/or students.
IL sessions will be scheduled in your classroom (with a laptop cart) or in one of the computer labs.
To request an information literacy session, please fill out the Information Literacy Instruction Request Form or email Garrett Pinder
*If we are unable to schedule a class visit due to library understaffing, we will offer you topical videos and research support websites that you may share with your students live in class or asynchronously through Blackboard.
